Swoon!

(Via The NYTimes)

From Kathleen Riley’s review of “The Astaires” a description of this scene from The Gay Divorcee:

He chases her, coaxes her, mirrors her, challenges her and goes hip to hip with her. He even spoons her, vertically. She isn’t sure, she turns away, she reconsiders, gives a little, gives a little more, then, overcome, bends backward and surrenders completely to the rhythm, the moment and the man. He flips her around, catches her, sends her off spinning alone only to meet her, unexpectedly, when she slows, pulls her in tight and takes her into a thrilling crescendo, then to a fantastically casual ending, as if to say, “That? Oh, that was nothing.”

Possibly the best, but definitely the cutest, homage to the Beastie Boys.

(via AV Club)

As far as cute stuff on the Internet goes, it’s hard to beat videos of dogs doing tricks        set to theMission: Impossible theme song. Three kids in Portland have managed to outdo that, though, with their moving, hilarious tribute to The Beastie Boys’ late Adam Yauch. Filmmaker James Winters recruited his two sons and nephews to strap on wigs, fake mustaches, and ill-knotted ties in a shot-for-shot remake of The Beastie Boys’ super-memorable video “Sabotage.” The results are simultaneously bad-ass and adorable, as three little kids struggle to climb over chain-link fences and chase down bad guys. Some of the effects were a little out of the group’s reach, like the car explosion, but they did manage to pull off the whole “throw a dummy off a rooftop” trick with flair. The whole thing comes off as a fitting and loving tribute to Yauch, who came up with the concept for the original video.

This famous stunt in the movie was actually built around what went wrong with the original stunt. Keaton intended to leap from one building onto the roof of another building, but he fell short, smashing into the brick wall and falling into a net off-screen. He was injured badly enough to be laid up for three days. But when he saw the film (his camera operators were instructed to always keep filming, no matter what happened), he not only kept the mishap, he built on it, adding the fall through three awnings, the loose downspout that propels him into the firehouse, and the slide down the fire pole. (The Three Ages - 1923)
